So Let's Try This Again

So I sort of got distracted by my work on www.officebeets.com and forgot about this blog for awhile. It has been fun working on that site although I have no real blogging skills besides the two lines of HTML that Asa taught me. I still feel cool (in a geeky way) every time I use them. I have had almost 4,000 visitors from all over the world. Not that much I know but we always say in theater that you have to give the same performance even if there is only one person in the audience. I was mentioned on "The Office Alliance Podcast" and given a good review. It has been fun! In the midst of all of that I forgot my password for this blog and had to confess that to Asa even though I had done that once before. Aghhhh!

School has started and three days in I am already in the midst of stress-inducing chaos and upper back pain. I am begging for a wall clock maybe this year I will succeed. I buy so much for the students but for some reason I just can't give in on this issue! Aghhhh!

This weekend has been very cool but was lots of fun! Asa and I went to Amigo's tacos after working out. They have amazing salsa and crappy service but we love going. Saturday was the return of Josh Woodward to the stage. He is awesome on CD but better in life. He exemplifies the idea that no two performances are the same. (Yea, I know he is probably reading this but I am serious!) He even played my all-time favorite "Troublemaker" and second all-time fav, "Incoherent". He called attention to Asa going to the bathroom and referred to his next album as "N+1", ha! To top that off the concert was at the Revolver an AMAZING gourmet restaurant that changes it's menu monthly and uses local items. I particularly loved the sweetcorn bisque, Asa's Braised Thai short ribs with slaw and the chocolate creme brulee. Yum!!! There was also a tasty (amuse buse?? I can hardly say it much less spell it!) that was shaved ice with melon.

Finally, in a nearly constant effort to improve myself and increase my self-esteem I like to think about ideas and try to look at them from the other side. Here is my note from this week as posted on Facebook after the jump.

Mandy Riddle Bour : Someone just told me that unless you put yourself first you won't be successful in life. What do you think? It kind of saddened me but I guess it all depends what your idea of success is...

Stephanie Barnhart Osborn
definitely depends on your definition of success...

Melissa Lawson Thomas
yes it does!

After some thought I come to this conclusion. If you think of yourself first you will experience success first in life but it will be short lived. If you think of others you may have to wait for success but it will out last the success of the selfish. I think this can apply to many definitions of success. However this does not mean one should be a door mat. That is my wisdom of the day.

You give me pause. Thank you!

on one hand, it does make a difference what you consider a successful life. I know I never thought about trying to have a 'successful life' so much as a well-rounded, fulfilling life. I guess that's my definition. On the other hand I do put my basic needs as a priority because nothing else goes well otherwise. It's like on a plane they tell you to ... Hope I'm not opening a can of worms...

there are two kinds of ways to be success in life, one is about having money and the other is about much more.if your goal in life is to help people, to be a unselfish person, then as long as your trying what you can at getting at this goal then you are on your way to true success, the kind that can not be taken away because the stock market ... Read Morecrashed. If your goal in life is to make money so you can feel some sense of security or some sense of worth or fullfillsome selfish need then your may feel that sense of success for having obtained money but this "success" is not so unique nor is it lasting, money may not grow on trees but like any good fruit it writhers and dies in the end, this kind of success feed by putting oneself first may have its advantages for the moment but will soon wither and die. Real security, real success is about being happy because you did a good for another person. One puts themselves first because they want to be happy, sucess should= happiness.

One can choose both paths perhaps to happiness but I would like to think the path that is not a selfish one is the one that has lasting value and therefore makes one more happy in the end. Hope I make sense
